RIS Gathering with Scott Burton is fine Medicine

Laughter was truly fine Medicinne for the 90 people including 30 sarcoma patients and survivors who attended the RIS Gathering on February 21st  for a wonderful afternoon of meeting and learning from others who are facing sarcomas and to laugh together as we were joined by nationally known juggler, comedian and sarcoma survivor, Scott Burton.

Rein in Sarcoma Gathering with Scott Burton

On Sunday, February 21, a record crowd of over 90 persons joined our seventh sarcoma patient and family gathering.  Thank you to sarcoma survivor Ruth Bachman and her husband Dale for hosting us at the beautiful Bachman's Lyndale Garden Center.  Scott Burton

National comedian, juggler, author and sarcoma survivor Scott Burton offered an amazing show.  Scott faced an osteosarcoma diagnosis at age 30, when he was engaged in life as a young father and a thriving and often physical performer.  Humor helped Scott survive chemotherapy and major limb surgery, and allowed him to re-engage in a full and rewarding life.  On Sunday, Scott shared his juggling and his humor.  Young and old laughed loud and long, and we all had our hearts shifted to a life-affirming place.      Following Scott's show, several members of the group shared their own successes, fears and questions.  New connections were made and old ones were renewed.  As always, we were enriched by the community.  And well fed!  Leftover cookies, anyone?

About Scott:
Scott is a survivor of a high grade osteo sarcoma (a childhood cancer, though diagnosed as an adult).  Treatment included a year of chemo and a cadaveric bone resection (bone transplant).  He was treated both at North Memorial and the University of Minnesota. Before his diagnosis, Scott was a headlining stand-up comic and world-class juggler, performing with Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld and writing for prime-time TV.

With his unique take on adversity, Scott speaks internationally with an inspiring and laughter-filled keynote that calls for humanity and passion (on both sides of the stethoscope) throughout the cancer battle.

But Scott's program for our Gathering will not just be the story of his sarcoma cancer. It is the story of LIFE! We are all survivors. Scott's story will fill you with laughter and energy.

Also, his widely acclaimed book, A Life in the Balance - a hilarious and touching account of his experience, makes a wonderful companion to his show.
